A CHRISTMAS STORY

 Saturday, December 3, 2005

December's classic movie will be "A CHRISTMAS STORY" starring Peter Billingsley, Melinda Dillon, and Darren McGavin. This is a comedy of a boy's obsession to acquire a Red Ryder BB-gun for Christmas, during the 1940s. It's based on Jean Sheperd's autobiographical story "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash." The grouchy department-store Santa is a must see! Filmed in 1983, this movie is a treat for all. So, do join us on Saturday, Dec. 3rd at the Redford, 17360 Lahser Rd., Detroit, just a few doors north of Grand River. Lighted and supervised parking is adjacent to the theatre. …. Surely an entertaining evening for only $4.00! Meet in the lobby at 7:30 p.m. Call Brian 248-626-6192

A CHRISTMAS STORY

How it was …

Saturday, December 3, 2005

December’s classic movie “A CHRISTMAS STORY” starring Peter Billingsley, Melinda Dillon, and Darren McGavin is a comedy of a boy’s obsession to acquire a Red Ryder BB-gun for Christmas, during the 1940s. With Plenty of popcorn, soda, and a ton of  laughs, our group of theater goers enjoyed this film, as many of us could relate to the child who just had to get that specific toy! As part of the festivities, a model railroad was set up on stage that included several operational trains, a town with a moon, river and falls.  Also, as a regular attraction to the movies at the Redford is the famous Barton Theatre Pipe Organ, always played by an expert musician, so, we were entertained before and during the intermission by numerous Christmas melodies. It hasn’t happened yet, but it’s just a matter of time when one of us will win their 50/50 drawing.

As the snow began to fall outside, we decided to go to Mr. Joe’s for a late night snack, where they serve beer (including Guinness) and buffalo burgers (two burgers for the price of one). Our entertainment was live karaoke, and we were surprised to see a former children’s cartoon host from the audience stand up and sing for us. If you are old enough to remember, and grew up in the Detroit area, you would remember Johnny Ginger.

We will be planning another old-time movie night at the Redford Theatre in the near future, so, keep your eye on your GMSC calendar of events.
