Annual GM Ski Club Picnic August 7, at Stoney Creek Metro Park The day started
out pretty good, it was warm with scattered clouds. Lee ####### picked up the BBQ Grills,
65 steaks, six chickens, thirty pounds of baked potatoes and tons of salad and headed for
Stony Creek for the annual GM Ski Club picnic. Special thanks to Leslie Enochs for getting
up before sun rise to reserve the picnic area (she said it was real peaceful watching the
sun come up she must really be a morning person)

The volleyball net was up at noon and the baked potatoes were on the grill warming just
as a few clouds started to form. People started to arrive about one, old friends caught up
on current evens while some new friendships were made
and a few more clouds came
rolling in. The first volley game was over about the same time the grilled
vegetables were placed on the BBQ, the sky seamed a little grayer. The second volleyball
game began, a few people went off to windsurf and roller blade as the wind started to
pickup.

As the one pound marinated steaks sizzled on the grill, a few raindrops came down, so a
tarp was raised over the cooking area. The baked potato table with all the trimmings and
salad bar was ready just before it started to sprinkle. A 30x40 ft plastic trap was strung
between the trees, luckily it was big enough to cover all of the picnic tables. The time
had come, dinner was ready as the buffet line opened up so did the sky, it rained so hard that the tarp cover started to fill with pockets of water. No
problem, the industrious GM Ski Club member just pushed it off from underneath. The rain
didnt seam to dampen anyones appetites, the baked potatoes were huge and the
Merlot went very will with the steaks. Although the rain never stopped, the watermelon was
enjoyed by all but our 1999 GM picnic was cut short by a very uncooperative mother nature.

At least everyone had full bellies as they ran to their dry cars.
